[06.) PAPERCRAFT: RESEARCH]

Image
The second part of the assignment this week is a few paragraphs of research done on one of the listed articles given by the teacher. I decide to choose the origami article on artist Hoang Tien Quyet.  Some pictures of their work: To me this is a very delicate and elegant style of work that takes a good amount of patience. This is apparent when viewing the objects and their smooth curves and folded edges. The technique used to create the origami is truly magnificent but also very challenging. I believe that if I were to attempt “wet fold origami” I would end up creating a mess every time. In the article “wet fold origami” is described as dampening a sheet of paper to create more realistic curves. Further stating that artists such as, Hoang Tien Quyet, use thicker paper because traditional origami paper would just tear.  Quyet’s origami is definitely pleasing and fascinating to look at, not just becuase it is elegant but it stands out compared to the straight and angular characteristics

[05.) PAPERCRAFT OBJECTS: DIGITAL SAMPLES]

This weeks assignment challenged students to use the newly learned commands explode, planarSrF, join, rotate3D, and unrollSrf. The goal was to create 8 different objects and unfold them into a flat templates, preparing students for the next milestone project. I had some fun creating these objects and coming up with interesting layouts to showcase them. I used rendering on rhino 7 to create the backgrounds and edited on text after in hopes of creating something visually pleasing while communicating my ideas.  I hope you enjoy!!!

For this weeks assignment, the class was tasked with selecting one of their mashups and refining it using Mesh Mixer. To help decide what remix to choose, we did peer to peer reviews in a “speed dating” fashion. After hearing my peers critics and careful consideration I decided to revamp my “Carrot Fly” mashup. I had a lot of fun recreating this mashup and I believe it turned out well. Tinkercad Concept Design: During the peer critics, some thoughtful suggestions were brought up in how I can improve this model. The main comments I took into consideration was about the size and detail of the wings. I searched throughout thingiverse to find a pair of more detailed wing that I could use. Doing this enhanced my mashup and made ”Carrot Fly” more cohesive. Changing up the wings was a very helpful suggestion and definitely improved the overall look of my object. One reason I chose to refine the “carrot fly” design is because in each of my pairings this model was pointed out as the best. It wa
